We are delighted to announce our new partnership with the Wilhelm and Else Heraeus Foundation in support of the Beamline for Schools Competition 2019.

For the first time, the Wilhelm and Else Heraeus Foundation, Germany's most important private institution that supports scientific research and education with an emphasis on physics, chooses to make a difference in science education for young students, supporting the CERN & Society Foundation and Beamline for Schools. 2019 marks the beginning of a new era for the Competition. For two years, 2019-2020, all accelerators at CERN will be switched off for maintenance and upgrade. This also concerns the T9 beamline of the PS accelerator that has hosted the BL4S experiments so far, which will be renovated to improve the quality of the beam. In 2019, the Competition will be hosted at one of the most technologically advanced particle physics laboratories, the German Electron Synchrotron - DESY, in Hamburg, Germany. This represents a unique opportunity to transfer the BL4S paradigm to other countries and spread the CERN spirit of scientific curiosity to even more young people in the future.

BL4S is a CERN & Society project and has managed so far to engage more than 8,500 high-school students  from over 60 countries and about 900 teachers with Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM), aiming at nurturing and inspiring the next generation of scientists and innovators.

You can find out more about the competition, the beamline and experimental facilities, and read about winning teams from previous years on the BL4S website
