Découvrez l'histoire d'Eliacim de la République dominicaine

Ever since the discovery of the Higgs boson in 2012, Eliacim has been curious about and interested in theoretical physics.

Despite facing many difficulties, in 2022 he took a leap of faith and applied to the 2023 non-Member State summer student programme (NMSSS).

Eliacim, who holds a BSc in theoretical physics, is the first student from the Dominican Republic to take part in the NMSSS programme. Over the years, his passion for science has grown stronger and stronger.

At CERN, Eliacim had the opportunity to interact with scientists and academics whom he describes as “world-class, top-notch and so always available to talk”. During his time at CERN, he particularly enjoyed the discussions he had with scientists, as well as his investigations into both theoretical and particle physics.

In the future, Eliacim would like to pursue a PhD and return to CERN as a theoretical physicist.

Inspired, motivated and determined to keep on chasing his dreams, he wants other students to know that “despite the odds, it is possible to turn your dreams into a reality.

He says, “CERN is where dreams and reality meet. But this is just the beginning. The future holds endless possibilities. Don't let fear hold you back; go for it, and who knows where you’ll end up! ” .
