In 2018, the Greek Teacher Programme is once more supported in part by the John S. Latsis Public Benefit Foundation as part of the Foundation's commitment to continue the benevolent legacy of John S. Latsis in the areas of education, science, culture, health, social welfare, and community development.

It is the third consecutive year that the Foundation will help us make the Greek Teacher Programme possible. This grant will allow 30 high-school science teachers to participate in CERN's physics training in summer 2018. The training lasts 4 days and consists of a series of lectures and workshops given by CERN scientists, hands-on activities and dedicated sessions on how teachers can bring modern physics into the school classroom. Teachers play a crucial role in nurturing future generations of scientists as they can engage more students to scientific studies and careers. Thus, the goal is to help teachers keep up-to-date with the latest developments in the field so that they can provide high-level education to their students.

The Greek Teacher Programme was first launched in 2008 as part of CERN’s National Teacher Programmes, a series of international courses offered on-site at CERN in Geneva, Switzerland, in the context of CERN’s overall education efforts to promote the teaching of modern physics and increase knowledge exchange between teachers and scientists. So far, CERN has trained more than 11,000 high school teachers from more than 70 countries in modern physics.
