Beamline for Schools (BL4S) continues to gain momentum. The competition, which invites high school students to design an experiment to perform at the beamline of an accelerator, celebrated its 10th anniversary back in September. And this year’s edition is reaching more impressive milestones.

Excitingly, there have been a record number of proposals this year – 508 (47 more than 2024), from approximately 3,653 students living in 72 different countries. And for the first time ever, this year there will be not three, not four, but five winning teams – two hosted at CERN, two hosted at DESY and one hosted at ELSA.

Experts are currently reviewing the applications, and the winners will be announced by the end of June. It is already shaping up to be very impressive this year – check out this article about the proposal from a team in Calamuchita, Argentina!

The Beamline for Schools (BL4S) competition enables young people from across the world to get hands on experience with science and research. It is made possible thanks to the generous donations we receive from our supporters. If you would like to find out more about the project, click here.
