We are delighted to announce our ongoing partnership with the Wilhelm and Else Heraeus Foundation in support of the 2019 German High School Student Internship Programme (HSSIP).

For the second time this year, the Wilhelm and Else Heraeus Foundation – one of Germany's most important private institutions that supports scientific research and education with an emphasis on physics – have chosen to make a difference in science education for young students, by supporting the CERN & Society Foundation and the second edition of CERN’s 2019 HSSIP.

Thanks to the donation from the Wilhelm and Else Heraeus Foundation, twice as many students were able to take part in this year’s German HSSIP. The first Programme took place in May and the second Programme is taking place at CERN this week! Both Programmes welcomed 24 German high school students aged between 16 and 19. The students were offered an intense two-week internship at CERN, during which they took part in many diverse activities. Accompanied by their teachers, the students got a deeper insight into particle physics through a variety of visits as well as by working on their own projects and experiments at CERN’s S’Cool LAB.

The HSSIP is a CERN & Society project and is a unique opportunity for high-school students to be introduced to CERN, its technologies and physics. In a world with increasing demand for skilled experts in STEM fields, it is important to educate and engage young people with science at an early age. After all, today’s students are tomorrow’s scientists!

Thank you once again to the Wilhelm and Else Heraeus Foundation for their valuable contribution.

You can find out more about the Programme on the HSSIP website.
