Taking CERN & Society Foundation partnerships to a new level

As CERN’s philanthropic arm, the CERN & Society Foundation promotes educational, artistic and technological projects with societal impact. The number and generosity of its donors and sponsors have grown significantly since the creation in 2014, and the ambitions of the Foundation have expanded with them. Taking a further step in deepening its partnerships, the CERN & Society Foundation is therefore pleased to announce its first three-year Title Partnership, which brings the level of engagement to a new level.

The Title Partnership is an important innovation that will enable CERN & Society to deepen its positive impact on society. Through a Title Partnership, the partner supports CERN & Society programmes through a dedicated annual contribution that allows the widest possible impact.

The Foundation’s Title Partner is Rolex, a long-standing supporter of the Foundation’s programmes, such as the Science Gateway and Sparks.

From its earliest days, Rolex has been at the forefront of science and innovation. The company pioneered the development of the first waterproof wristwatch, the Oyster, as well as a number of landmark innovations such as the Perpetual rotor self-winding mechanism.

Rolex has many connections with the realm of science. Alongside, the brand's partnership with CERN, it has also been linked to EPFL, the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne. And, since the mid-1970s many Laureates of the Rolex Awards for Enterprise have helped advance science. Furthermore, the company's support for the Lindau Nobel Laureate Meetings since 2015 is part of this legacy, as the exchange between Nobel Laureates and young scientists inspires innovation.

The relationship between CERN and Rolex dates back to the early days of the Organization, and a common quest for excellence has forged close ties of collaboration over the years.  A shared passion for science and technology, combined with a strong belief in ensuring an innovative future, is the basis for this privileged relationship.

With the annual Title Partnership contribution, the Foundation will be able to provide further support to many of its programmes, notably in the area of education. Indeed, the Title Partnership will benefit young students, ranging from high school - with the Beamline for schools’ competition - to university - with the non-Member States summer students (NMSSS) programme and the non-Member States PhD studentship scheme. The goal being to inspire and prepare the scientists of tomorrow at every level of education. The partnership will also enable outreach projects such as Sparks or innovation projects through the development of CERN technologies with a strong potential to address existing global societal issues.

The CERN & Society Foundation is grateful to Rolex as its Title Partner, and to all its supporters, for their commitment and trust, which is the very basis of the Foundation’s work.
