Winners of 2025 Beamline for Schools competition

The five winning teams will travel to CERN, DESY and ELSA to perform their proposed experiments

Congratulations are in order! Five teams have been announced as the winners of the 2025 edition of the Beamline for Schools (BL4S) competition: “The Spallateam” (Collège Cardinal Mercier, Belgium), “Physical” (Cağaloğlu Anadolu Lisesi, Türkiye), “Dawson Technicolor” (Dawson College, Canada), “Pumas in Kollision” (Escuela Nacional Preparatoria N° 6 "Antonio Caso, Mexico) and “Team XTReme” (Centennial High School, USA).

Each team has designed an experiment they would like to perform at a beam accelerator and the winners will get to do just that! We will welcome the teams from Belgium and Türkiye to CERN in September, while the teams from Canada and Mexico will travel to DESY (Deutsches Elektronen-Synchrotron in Hamburg, Germany) and the team from the USA will travel to ELSA (Elektronen-Stretcher-Anlage of the University of Bonn, Germany).

Additionally, three teams will be recognised for the most creative video proposals and another 15 teams for the quality of physics outreach activities they are organising in their local communities.

The 12th edition of the competition has received a record-breaking 508 proposals from 72 countries, with more than 3,500 high-school students participating altogether. It also is the first time in the competition’s history that teams from Belgium and Türkiye have won.

BL4S is made possible thanks to the generous supporters of the CERN & Society Foundation, with this edition notably supported by ROLEX, through its Perpetual Planet Initiative, and by the Wilhelm and Else Heraeus Foundation.
